How to Make a Clock in Minecraft

If you’re an avid miner in Minecraft, you’ll know that feeling of going up to the surface after days, only to be surrounded by mobs because it’s midnight. Before you know it, a creeper is charging up right behind, and… there go all your diamonds and iron. But this could have all been avoided if there was a clock in the game, right? Well, Clocks have been in Minecraft since the Alpha version. Here’s how to make a Clock in Minecraft.

Where Can You Find a Clock in Minecraft

Clocks are one of the most neglected items in the game, despite being around since the early days. While they’re definitely not the handiest, they can help you immensely when you just want to go back to your base in one piece after you’ve looted every cave in the vicinity.

Thankfully, Clocks can be found and crafted in Minecraft. To find one, you’ll need to be ready for a quick adventure, as they only spawn in Ruined Portal and Shipwreck chests. However, the chances of them spawning are very slim (around 7% for both locations).

Admittedly, crafting one is a much better approach.

How to Craft a Clock in Minecraft

Clock Crafting Recipe

To craft a Clock in Minecraft, simply follow the recipe shown above. All the materials you’ll need for it are:

  • 4 Gold Ingots
  • 1 Redstone Dust

If you’ve gone mining, you’ll surely have come across both Redstone and Gold Ore, so just grab a few pieces and craft a Clock before you leave your hunt.

You can also obtain a Clock by trading with an Expert Librarian. But, there’s only a 50% chance that they’ll sell Clocks, and the trade is far from reasonable, as it’ll set you back 5 emeralds.

So, just stick to crafting one, as it’s one of the best uses for your spare Golden Ingots.

How to Use a Clock in Minecraft

Using a Clock at Noon

If you’ve crafted a Clock in Minecraft, it’s time to learn how to use it. Luckily enough, it works similarly to a real-life clock, even though it doesn’t have any hour markers or a numbered dial.

In Minecraft’s Clock, there are two indications (the Sun and the Moon) and two phases (Day and Night). When the Sun appears on the left side, it indicates dawn. Similarly, when it’s fading on the right side, it signifies that dusk is upon your Minecraft world.

Also, when either the Moon or the Sun symbol is at the top of the clock, it means that it’s midnight or noon, respectively.

Conclusion

That’s how simple it is to make a Clock in Minecraft. While it’s far from a necessity, especially once you make a shield and some good armor, Clocks are still lovely to have. You can even place them on an Item Frame and have your very own wall clock. Do you still use Clocks in Minecraft, or did you never bother to make one? Let us know over on the Minecraft Forum!
