Many Minecraft players (like myself) are book lovers or writers. One struggle that players like us face is sharing our Minecraft stories or journals with others in multiplayer servers. If only there was a way to place them on a pedestal for everyone to read them. That’s where lecterns jump into the frame. Here’s how to make a lectern in Minecraft.
Where Can You Find a Lectern in Minecraft
Finding a Lectern
Lecterns require a few different items to make, so it might be easier to locate them in one of their naturally-generated spawn points. If you’re feeling risky, you can try obtaining one from the secret room inside an Ancient City. But, a much safer approach is to find one inside a village. More specifically, lecterns spawn inside a Librarian’s house.
That said, looting an Ancient City is somewhat challenging, especially when it comes to facing the Warden. And Librarians don’t naturally spawn in villages as often as other professions, like farmers. So, it’s better to gather all the items needed to make a lectern in Minecraft.
How to Craft a Lectern in Minecraft
Lectern Recipe
If you don’t want to spend dozens of hours jumping from village to village or risking your items in the Ancient City, you should try crafting a lectern. The lectern’s recipe can be found right above, and you’ll only need:
- 4 Wooden Slabs
- 1 Bookshelf
While you can always get a bookshelf from a mansion or a stronghold, it’s better to get paper, make some books with it, and craft one yourself. Plus, you can use any kind of slabs you have in your inventory!
Once you’ve crafted a lectern, it’s time to put it to good use.
How to Use a Lectern in Minecraft
Lecterns in Minecraft have two primary uses: holding books and turning villagers into librarians. The latter can be extremely helpful once you’ve obtained the best weapons and armor because librarians are the easiest way to get a Mending book. Once you enchant your gear with it, it’ll use up XP to repair it, deeming your tools practically unbreakable.
Holding Books
Placing a book on a Lectern
While most of you only need a lectern in Minecraft to turn a villager into a librarian, this fancy stand can also hold written books. Despite not being that practical, placing a book on a lectern emits a redstone signal. So, you could build a secret room and use the lectern-book combination as a key!
Conclusion
And that’s how easy it is to make a lectern in Minecraft. Even though this might not be the most practical job site block, librarians are extremely useful at any point in the game. Plus, if you successfully defend a village during a raid, you could get a Mending book for very few emeralds. Have you built a secret room using a lectern as the key? If so, we’d love to see it over on the Minecraft Forum!
